We were one of the first companies in the UK to use NECs 46" ultra thin bezel LCD displays to create a video wall at Manchester Central, one of the UK's leading conference and exhibition venues. Following on from a front projection installation that we completed in 2008, Manchester Central asked us to look at alternative technologies that could provide the near seamless effect that they liked, whilst keeping running costs to a minimum.
NEC had recently launched the MultiSync X461UN, a model that features a gap of only 3.6mm at the edge of each display. Being LCD based provided the robust imaging needed for 24/7 usage without risk of permanent screen burn that has traditionally been a problem on Plasma based displays.
We installed 10 displays units in a panorama above the main entrance to the venue and powered them using Scala software. The wall can be used as a single long panorama or split into chunks, entirely through software configuration, making this a very flexible digital canvas on which Manchester Central and their clients can promote themselves.
