A name truly synonymous with not only travel retail but British retail too, Thomas Cook approached us back in 2008 to install digital screens in some of its top performing UK stores. With a history dating back to 1841, we were obviously very excited to begin a partnership with the world’s oldest travel leisure brand. We’re even more excited that more than 10 years later, we’re still working with this iconic British company.
The company wanted to liven up its retail windows and provide a digital version of exchange rate information and late travel deals. We installed a pilot system into 16 stores and, after a successful trial, Thomas Cook decided to roll it out to a further 70 stores. Pixel managed the entire process, including site surveys, hardware procurement and software configuration. The UK-wide install took less than six weeks. Our simple digital signage content management system was provided to the Head Office and all store managers, enabling updates to be handled both centrally and locally.
In 2012, we were asked to provide a variety of screens for a new concept store in Leeds. We installed a number of traditional digital signs as well as touch-enabled screens that show the latest deals and available holidays and allow customers to browse websites including TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet and YouTube. Since 2012 we have installed across a range of new flagship sites, our favourite being the Westfield Stratford location opened in 2016 featuring a huge array of screens including video walls, touch-enabled VIP booths and Kids screens playing the latest ‘Lollo & Bernie’ (Thomas Cook mascots) fun-filled video, with directional audio.
Between 2013 and 2018 we have installed a specific network of over 400 internal screens that Thomas Cook allow specially selected partners to advertise across. These include tourist boards, hotel chains and cruise operators who benefit from the additional feature of real-time audience analytics data collected via Quividi’s software and compiled and analysed by Pixel’s in-house research team. With rich data and insights backing up performance, Thomas Cook is able to entice new partnerships throughout the year and therefore keep content play loops fresh at all times.
