Communicating digitally with engineering teams across the South East
UK Power Networks is a distribution network operator for electricity covering South East England, the East of England and London.
the challenge
UK Power Networks installs and supports the infrastructure that supplies electricity to over eight million people. With offices distributed across their catchment area and many mobile staff, the company faced challenges in communicating with its workforce.
We were approached to investigate the use of digital signage as a means of workforce communication and we proposed a network of freestanding and wall-mounted digital signs.
Our screens provide staff with the latest company news, weather and travel updates and the newest ‘best-practice’ guidelines. The network was coupled with UKPN’s Convergence software which allows for real time performance statistics to be displayed on screens. Content is managed by a range of users, including those at head office and the local sites.
Our Approach
We proposed a network of freestanding and wall-mounted digital signs coupled with a dynamic screen content management system. The content was designed and produced to provide staff with the latest company news, the local weather and travel updates (which were highly important for the mobile workforce who are greatly impacted by these factors) along with the latest ‘best-practice’ guidelines. The network was coupled with UKPN’s Convergence software which allows for real time performance statistics, including Health & Safety related matters to be displayed on screens. The content is automated as far as possible, but a range of internal users, including those at head office and the local sites were also provided with secure access to the cloud-based content management portal interfaces.
The Outcome
The various displays have been in operation for several years, continually providing office and remote workers with updates relating to their daily working lives.
